Thanks to strong community advocacy, SB73 passed the Senate Education Committee by a 6–3 vote and is now headed to the Senate Tax, Business and Transportation Committee tomorrow at 1:30 PM. The bill strengthens driver education around safely interacting with people biking and walking, helping create safer streets across New Mexico. Supporters can attend in person in Room 321 at the Roundhouse or participate via Zoom and are encouraged to contact committee members to urge a “Do Pass” vote.

SB73 Advances to Senate Tax, Business & Transportation Committee

Thanks to strong community advocacy, SB73 passed the Senate Education Committee on Monday by a 6–3 vote. Emails, calls, and public comments from supporters helped move the bill forward.

SB73 strengthens driver education around safely interacting with vulnerable road users — including people biking and walking — helping create safer streets across New Mexico.

The bill is now scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Tax, Business and Transportation Committee:
