SB 73 Heads to the Governor’s Desk

February 25, 2026 at 8:25:56 PM

SB 73 passed the New Mexico House of Representatives last Wednesday night on a decisive 45–2 vote, marking a major milestone in this year’s 30-day legislative session. With Senate approval already secured, the bill now heads to the desk of Michelle Lujan Grisham for final action.

The 2026 regular legislative session officially adjourned sine die at noon on February 19, 2026. Under New Mexico law, the governor has 20 days after adjournment to sign or veto bills passed during the final days of session. That means the deadline to act on SB 73 is March 11, 2026.

What is SB 73?

SB 73 - Driver's Ed Requirements strengthens state policies that support safer, more accessible streets across New Mexico. The bill helps communities:

Thank You

This progress would not have been possible without the many people who wrote letters of support, contacted legislators, and showed up in person to give public comment. Your advocacy made a difference — especially in a fast-moving 30-day session.

There’s still time to encourage the governor to sign SB 73 into law. You can send a message here.
