A proposed Maverik gas station at Carlisle and Indian School appears to be officially off the table after the developer missed the deadline to appeal the City’s denial of its conditional use permit. BikeABQ had opposed the project during the public process due to safety concerns at a designated network spine and its proximity to a planned protected bike lane on Indian School Road. The organization thanks everyone who submitted comments and engaged in the review process.

The proposed Maverik gas station and convenience store at Carlisle Boulevard and Indian School Road appears to be officially dead after the developer failed to file an appeal by the April 16 deadline.

The City of Albuquerque had previously denied the conditional use permit, citing concerns including traffic safety and compatibility with surrounding transportation plans. With the appeal window now closed, the decision stands.

The proposal drew strong public opposition from nearby residents and advocacy groups concerned about safety impacts at a location identified as a key network spine in the city’s transportation framework. The site is also adjacent to a planned protected bike lane on the north side of Indian School Road, raising concerns about conflict points in an already high-stress corridor for people walking and biking.

BikeABQ formally opposed the conditional use permit during the public process, emphasizing safety concerns related to vehicle access and turning movements in an area intended for future protected bike infrastructure. The organization extends its thanks to everyone who submitted public comments, attended hearings, and helped elevate these concerns during the review process.

With the appeal deadline passed, the Maverik proposal will not move forward under the current application.
