The City of Albuquerque’s Department of Municipal Development has installed new bike lane protection on the existing eastbound bike lane along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. This is part of a pilot program to evaluate different approaches for creating safer, more comfortable bike facilities. The current installation uses concrete curbing with flex posts to provide added separation between people biking and moving traffic.
The pilot segment runs only between Edith and Arno. We encourage community members to ride the corridor, experience the new protection, and share their feedback with the City as it continues testing options for improved bike-lane design. The findings will help guide decisions about where similar infrastructure could be used elsewhere in Albuquerque.
