Capital Outlay decisions are being finalized this week, and community input can still influence which projects move forward. While full project details aren’t available citywide, Districts 6 and 7 have published lists — including several bike, pedestrian, and trail improvements we’re excited about. Learn more and find out how to contact your legislators before the deadline.
Capital Outlay Deadline Approaching: Support Community Projects You Care About
February 6, 2026 at 4:34:15 PM

Each year, New Mexico legislators decide how to distribute Capital Outlay funding for community projects across the state. These funds can support everything from basic infrastructure to public safety improvements, trails, and transportation upgrades — but only a portion of requests receive funding. Community advocacy can play an important role in determining which projects move forward.
The deadline for legislators to finalize their Capital Outlay allocations is this Saturday, making now a critical time to speak up.
At this point, we’ve only been able to locate detailed Capital Outlay request lists for City Council Districts 6 and 7. We do not yet have a complete, citywide list, and many projects across Bernalillo County have limited publicly available detail. Even so, several proposals stand out for their potential to improve safety, mobility, and quality of life — particularly for people walking, biking, and using trails.
