Pick one or two actions below, and send us back your survey. No experience necessary. We'll call you and ask you to help on topics of interest to you. 1. EDUCATION- Educating the public to promote bicycling on the roadways.
  • Teaching Effective Cycling, or "Share the Road" riding
  • Talking to community groups about bicycle transportation

  • Creating Flyers about Bicycling in Albuquerque
2. EVENTS
Organizing events to promote bicycling in Albuquerque.
  • Working on Bike Month (May) and Bike to Work Day (May 16, 2000)
  • Create a Bike Buddy program; leverage Transit Department campaign to promote alternative transportation.
  • Working with Art Gardenswartz to coordinate a Bike Tour that Benefits GASP
3. ENGINEERING and INSTITUTIONALIZING BICYCLING
Education of public institutions to promote bicycle friendly provisions in all actions and projects.
  • Work with Albuquerque Police Department
  • Work with Transit Department to make Transit Centers, Park and Rides, etc. bike friendly
  • Take Public Works Road and Traffic Engineers out to see bad road designs
  • Reviewing roadway plans
  • Make sure new developments incorporate shower and locker facilities.
4. PUBLIC ADVOCACY
Testifying at hearings and attending meetings
  • Urban Transportation Planning and Policy Board (This Group is possibly the most influential in creating transportation policy - made up of local elected officials and other decision makers.)

  • Environmental Planning Commission
  • Design Review Board
  • Greater Albuquerque Bicycling Advisory Committee
  • Legislative initiatives to promote bicycling through incentives created by city and state legislation.
